Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a popular tourist destination on one of Spain’s Canary Islands. The city is rife with tour guides who desire to show tourists everything the city has to offer. One of the best is Javier Fernandez, who along with partner Pilar Arenilla, understands that high-end tour guides are an unexplored niche. Javier believed the potential to make money through concierge tourism services existed and jumped at the chance. In 2014, Canarias Exclusive was born. But part of the problem Javier faced was that not enough people were exposed to his company. Even though Canarias Exclusive had a presence online, it was seeing little success. Javier knew something had to change.
What changed was the decision to use Facebook. Most of what Canarias Exclusive does is post information about the area and let it grow organically, but Javier also uses boosted posts targeted to his niche market – tourists from around the globe. Additionally, he understands that videos and photos can really say a lot, showing attractions and events to potential customers that mere words cannot provide. With that in mind, the company started posting more pictures to its Facebook Business Page and adding video in order to help people get a better feel for what Canarias Exclusive actually does and what Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has to offer. That way, tourists know exactly what to expect. The growth from Facebook has been significant.
Since the page launched three years ago, the return on investment for Canarias Exclusive has increased 250 percent. Both partners are making a good living now when they were just getting by early on. This started as a college project with only one person, but the company has now hired six more employees. Ninety percent of their sales come from the Facebook platform, and they are deeply impressed by how much Facebook has helped their company grow and changed their lives. “Thanks to Facebook I am expanding a lot, and the benefits of my business are getting higher and higher. So far this year, we have earned more than 75,000 euros just from Facebook,” says Javier.
